Jacqua Schmich
"I am always working to
capture light and color in a realistic way, but leaning toward
impressionism."
Although Colorado and New Mexico landscapes are Jacqua's
first love, she paints other subjects, including florals, still life, wild
life and farm animals. She especially loves to paint scenes from around
the Estes Park and Rocky Mountain Park "I am always working to
capture light and color in a realistic way, but leaning toward
impressionism." When people comment , ' I know that place, I can
feel it' Then I have hit the mark." Her work has been shown in
numerous one woman and group shows throughout the region.
Jacqua lives and works in Loveland, Colorado, an art
friendly town which is one of the leading art towns in Colorado.
Jacqua is represented in Estes Park by Snowfire, a unique mountain
gallery, located in the historic Old Church Shops, 157 W. Elkhorn Avenue,

Jacqua has been
developing as an artist since childhood in Nebraska. Moving to Colorado in
1965 her interest in art turned to fascination with the spectacular beauty
of the Rocky Mountains.
Her success as a plein air painter was aided through
study with well known artists such as Ray Vinella, Clyde Aspevig, Ted
Goerschner, Joyce Pike, Sharon Hultz, Skip Whitcomb, Irby Brown, Kevin
McPherson and Lu Haskew, to name a few. A value Jacqua works toward is to
continuously improve her abilities and creative expression.
Jacqua prefers to begin paintings on location with a
quick study. She then completes the painting in her home studio in
Loveland, Colorado. "Painting outdoors is not always a picnic,"
she says. "Sometimes it is hot or cold. Windy. Bugs and bees. Easels
blow over. Changing light from passing clouds. Still, outdoor painting is
the key to better art. There is no other way to capture the light, mood
and visual impact of your subject."
